Switzerland: Work Visas

A Swiss student permit motivation letter or study plan is not judged like a school admissions essay. For many non-EU/EFTA applicants, the key immigration question is whether the whole file tells a coherent education story: why this applicant needs this specific Swiss programme now, how it is funded, and why the immediate purpose of stay is genuine study rather than employment or settlement.

A founder moving to Switzerland under lump-sum taxation may still own a foreign company, receive dividends and protect family wealth. The difficulty begins when ownership turns into activity: management calls from a Swiss home office, deal approvals, director fees, board preparation or regular instructions to executives abroad.

Wanting an elderly parent nearby in Switzerland is entirely understandable, particularly where a parent is widowed, unwell, isolated or increasingly reliant on family support. Swiss immigration law, however, protects spouses and minor children much more clearly than adult parents.

A Swiss lump-sum tax agreement does not, by itself, give you the right to live in Switzerland. Switzerland may allow qualifying foreign nationals to be taxed according to expenditure, but that tax status is not a residence permit, not a visa category and not a purchase price for Swiss residence.
