The much-awaited rules regarding setting up of crèche facilities under the Maternity Benefit Act have been published (in draft form) in Karnataka and Haryana. Apart from this, a few significant employment law related judicial decisions have also been recently pronounced.

1. Draft Rules for crèche facilities under the Maternity Benefit Act

The Karnataka Government has published the draft Karnataka Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Rules, 2018 (Draft Rules) in the Official State Gazette on 30 August 2018 for public comments. The Government has invited objections and suggestions from the public on the Draft Rules which may be submitted within 30 days from the date of publication. The Draft Rules set out provisions for providing crèche facilities. As per the Draft Rules, every establishment having 50 or more employees is required to have 1 crèche for every 30 children (below 6 years of age).
