The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property has implemented the 12th edition of the Nice Classification1 effective from November 2, 2023. This edition introduces significant changes, particularly in how applicants are required to specify their goods or services. Notably, the SAIP no longer accepts class headings, applicants are required to choose between specifying individual items from a predefined list or opting for all items within a class.

The transition indicates a deliberate move towards a more detailed trademark application process.
