Taft Minneapolis partner, Kodi Verhalen and associate, Spencer Rojas presented "Professional Engineering Ethics in Action: Practical Decision-Making," at NSPECon25 on Aug. 8. Throughout the session, Verhalen and Rojas led guided discussions and activities focused on ethical challenges engineers face and the decision-making process necessary to navigate these challenges.

Verhalen is a partner in Taft's Energy practice group. She focuses on electric and natural gas regulatory matters. Verhalen has represented public utilities, independent power producers, transmission owners, private equity firms, and competitive retail suppliers in administrative proceedings before public utilities commissions, including those involving transmission line and generating facility siting, utility rate cases, natural gas pipeline siting, and ownership changes. She also advises on regulated and non-regulated transactional and financing matters. Beyond energy, Verhalen counsels clients on environmental issues such as audits, carbon strategy, M&A, insurance underwriting, Proposition 65 compliance, and property remediation.
As a member of the Energy group, Rojas represents utilities, developers, contractors, and end-use customers nationwide in energy- and construction- related transactions. Before joining Taft, Rojas externed for the Hon. Kate M. Menendez, United States District Court for the District of Minnesota.
