London – Mayer Brown has advised STAR Capital ("STAR") on STAR IV Fund's investment in Subsea Technology & Rentals ("STR").

This is the second transaction Mayer Brown has advised STAR on this calendar year, having also advised a consortium led by STAR on the acquisition of V.Group in June 2024.

STR is a leading global subsea sensor equipment and solutions provider to the offshore energy, infrastructure and marine science markets, operating globally with facilities in Aberdeen, Great Yarmouth, Houston, Perth and Singapore.

The investment will enable STR to further evolve its equipment and service offering through organic and acquisition-led growth. It will also expand the company's geographical presence to clients across growing global offshore energy and infrastructure markets, with a new base in Norway set to open early next year.

The team was led by Private Equity partners Tarun Patel and James West.

The other key workstreams were led by London-based Stuart Brinkworth (Partner, Leveraged Finance), Tim Nosworthy (Partner, Funds) and Ben Eaton (Partner, Tax) – with deal support being provided by a broader multi-specialist team including senior associate Danny Williams and associates Sam Kahan and Damini Kotecha (Private Equity), associates Niki Mehta and Shelby Buchanan (Corporate and Securities), counsel George Rudy (US Corporate and Securities), partner Jennifer Chih, associate director Naomi See and senior associate Hannah Heng (Singapore Corporate and Securities), senior associate Bridget Polkinghorne and associate Boaz Levy (Leveraged Finance), partner Miriam Bruce, senior associate Mark Rose and associate Ruth Kellard (Employment), senior associate Maria Chang and associate Monica Koh (Singapore Employment), partner Jason Hungerford, senior associate James Ford and associate Mihira Patten (Sanctions and Anti-Bribery), partner Daniel Vowden and counsel Mark Hills (Antitrust & Competition), UK partner Andrew Block and counsel Esther White (Pensions), partner Stephanie Vasconcellos (US Pensions), partner Iain Roberts and associates Kirsty McLeish and Julia Wyszomirska (Real Estate), partner Mark Prinsley and associate Alasdair Maher (IP, IT and Data Protection) and senior associate Kathryn Buddington (Tax).
