Mayer Brown has been honored with the "Debt and Equity-Linked Deal of the Year" Award at the 2025 IFLR Americas Awards, recognizing the firm's role in the Republic of El Salvador's debt-for-nature conversion.
This award highlights Mayer Brown's work advising the United States International Development Finance Corporation, the US government's international development bank, as political risk insurer in a $1 billion "debt-for-nature" conversion for El Salvador. The deal enabled El Salvador to repurchase $1.031 billion of its outstanding bonds at a discount, significantly reducing the country's debt service obligations, and to channel a portion of the savings from the bond repurchase to support conservation of the Rio Lempa watershed in El Salvador.
