In a recent speech, Dalia Blass, head of the SEC's Division of Investment Management, announced that the SEC is focused on expanding retail investor access to alternative fund managers. As an example, she discussed the possibility of facilitating the launch of public (closed-end) funds of hedge funds and funds of private equity funds. To date, there have been certain regulatory impediments to bringing these products to market.
