World Law Group (WLG) recently held its annual Americas Regional meeting in New York City, which included a dedicated WLG | impact initiative. A core part of these gatherings is a social and community engagement program that allows attendees to give back to the host city. This year, the focus on mental health resonated deeply with our members, a topic that has become increasingly important in their professional lives.

A Meaningful Partnership with the Child Mind Institute

This year's hands-on activity involved assembling mindfulness care packages for the Child Mind Institute, a nonprofit committed to helping children and families facing mental health and learning disorders. During the event, the Child Mind Institute's Whitney Shephard shared insights into the organization's vital mission, highlighting its clinical care, school programs, digital resources, and open-access research initiatives. We also heard a feature message from Dave Anderson, PhD, the Vice President of Public Engagement and Education and a senior psychologist in the ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute. Dr. Anderson highlighted the significant impact WLG's partnership has on their mission and on children's lives.

Creating Mindfulness Packages

Attendees rolled up their sleeves to create mindfulness packages, which were a unique blend of practical educational resources and tools for emotional well-being. Each package was thoughtfully curated to include essential school supplies along with sensory items like stress toys, coloring books, scented pencils, and crayons. These item selections were made to promote and foster mindfulness among students and families in New York City.

Rather than a simple monetary donation, WLG's members focused on contributing their time and energy directly to the project, finding great value in the hands-on activity. The packages will be distributed to 50 children in local schools and community programs, providing tangible support while fostering a sense of shared mission among WLG members. This initiative powerfully demonstrates the impact of corporate social responsibility.
