Key Points

  • The Government of Indonesia is launching an electronic visa (e-Visa) for certain visa applicants
  • The e-Visa is available for business visas, work permits, and dependent visas
  • Eligible applicants can submit their visas electronically instead of regular mail
  • The electronic application route shortens the visa application time by 3-5 business days
  • The e-Visa application time will average six weeks
  • Employers and applicants should anticipate some delays during the e-Visa's implementation

Overview

The Indonesian government has created an electronic visa (e-Visa) designed to streamline the application process for most Indonesian visas.

Who is Affected?

Business visa holders, work permit holders, and dependent visa holders are eligible for the new e-Visa system.

What are the Changes?

Eligible applicants can now apply for e-Visas electronically. They are no longer required to physically mail in a visa application to an Indonesian consular post. Instead, the visa sponsor uploads the applicant's passport information, details, and supporting documents into the government portal. Once issued, applicants will receive their e-Visa via email.

Additionally, applicants will benefit from a faster and more efficient permit application process. The online system eliminates the need to convert a Telex into a visa sticker prior to the applicant's entry into Indonesia, which reduces the application processing time by 3-5 business days.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

The entire application timeline will take approximately six weeks with the e-Visa system. However, the government cautions that applicants may face delays during the initial e-Visa implementation.
