RDJ successfully advised the examiner on the examinership of Cummins Sports, a Cork-founded sports retailer with deep GAA heritage.
Ireland

RDJ advised the examiner, John Russell of Baker Tilly Ireland, on the successful examinership of Cummins Sports, the Cork-founded sports retailer, culminating in Mr Russell’s proposals for a scheme of arrangement being confirmed by the High Court.

The scheme enables Cummins Sports to continue operations across its four remaining Cork stores in Douglas Court, Blackpool Shopping Centre, Fermoy and Midleton, securing the future of a significant number of jobs and providing a platform for a more sustainable business model in an evolving retail market.

Founded in 1971, Cummins Sports is a well-known Irish family business with a strong GAA heritage, having produced sliotars used in All-Ireland Hurling Championship Finals since 1976. The examinership process involved a restructuring of the company’s operations, including investment from members of the Cummins family and the rationalisation of its property portfolio. As part of the outcome, the business will transition to a new generation of family ownership, supporting its continued presence in the Cork retail market.

The RDJ team was led by Ashling Walsh and included Steven Scanlan (Restructuring & Insolvency) and Cathal Flynn (Restructuring & Insolvency) and Leah Moriarty (Employment).
