RDJ advised Peter Curran Electric Limited (PCE), a Galway-based electrical wholesaler, on its acquisition by UK heating and plumbing giant, Wolseley. Completion of the transaction followed clearance from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).The transaction marks a significant step in Wolseley’s strategy to expand its footprint in Ireland’s growing renewable heating market, as the electrification of heat continues to accelerate.
PCE, founded over 20 years ago and headquartered in Galway, is one of the largest electrical wholesalers in the West of Ireland. Wolseley, which already owns Heat Merchants, Hevac and Tubs & Tiles in Ireland, intends to build on PCE’s expertise as part of a broader plan to develop a leading position in electrical distribution to support the transition to renewable heating technologies, including heat pumps.
The acquisition reflects wider market trends, as demand for energy-efficient and electrified heating solutions continues to grow, driven by new housing delivery and retrofit activity.
The RDJ cross-practice team advising on the transaction was led by JP Gilmartin and included Conor Moran and Scion Flanagan (Corporate and Commercial); Gráinne Finn (Real Estate); Treasa Seoighe (Banking); Diarmaid Gavin (Competition); David McCarroll and Sophie Petticrew (Employment); Alan Cronin (Pensions); and Elena Vassileva (Data Protection).
