Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is proud to welcome our 2025 summer associate class! Our Summer Associates collaborate closely with Marshall Gerstein attorneys, delving into the intricate realm of intellectual property (IP) law and the diverse technologies with which our attorneys engage daily.

Our program provides students with hands-on legal experience, tackling real-world assignments across intellectual property fields such as litigation, prosecution, and transactional matters. We also pack in a good amount of fun and camaraderie with the firm, as Summer Associates take part in various social gatherings and immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of our firm and Chicago.

We are excited to welcome our 2025 Summer Associate class:

Stefan Brooks is a 1L at DePaul University. Stefan will be working with our Biotechnology & Life Sciences group, where he previously worked as a Patent Agent. Stefan achieved his Ph.D. in biological chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.

Theodora Dillman is a 1L at Loyola University Chicago and will be working with our Trademark & Copyright group. Theodora received her B.A. in English literature and history of art from Yale University and her M.S. in humanities from the University of Chicago.

John Golden is a 1L at Loyola University Chicago and will be working with our Electrical & Computer Technologies group. John received his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.

Erin Kelley is a 1L at the University of Michigan and will be working with our IP Litigation group. Erin received her B.S. in bioinformatics/molecular biology and her M.S. in biochemistry/biophysics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Ria Patel is a 2L at Duke University. Ria previously joined the firm as a technical specialist, and she will continue to work with the firm’s Electrical & Computer Technologies group. Ria received her B.S. in biomedical engineering and her M.S. in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University.

Katelyn Sears is a 2L at Loyola University Chicago and will be working with our Industrial & Mechanical Technologies prosecution group. Katelyn received her B.S. in biomedical engineering from Florida State University.

Ryan Slechta is a 1L at the University of Michigan. Ryan previously worked for Marshall Gerstein as a Patent Agent, and he will continue to support the firm’s Electrical & Computer Technologies group as a summer associate. Ryan earned his B.A. in mathematics/computer science from the University of St. Thomas and his Ph.D. in computer science from Ohio State University.

Kaila Smith is a 1L at Loyola University Chicago and she will be working with the firm’s Biotechnology & Life Sciences group. Kaila received her B.S. in biological sciences from DePaul University and her Ph.D. in plant biology/molecular plant sciences from Michigan State University.
