On April 30, KNOETZL Partner Katrin Hanschitz, an ABA member and Co-Chair of its International Litigation Committee, chaired a panel at th ABA International Law Section Annual Meeting 28 April – 1 May) in New York to discuss "Class Action vs. Collective Redress – What Works, What Doesn't." Speaking alongside of Katie Burghardt Kramer (DTO Law), Kirstin Dodge (Nivalion), and moderator Frederick Acomb (Miller Canfield), the panel examined how mass damage claims are evolving on both sides of the Atlantic. With the EU Collective Redress Directive now in force and the first actions underway, the discussion addressed key differences and similarities between EU collective redress mechanisms and the U.S. class action model, shedding light on litigation funding, opt-in vs. opt-out regimes, and potential transatlantic influence on legal reform.
