On 17 February 2024, the EU Digital Services Act became fully applicable to online intermediaries and platforms (online marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, etc.) operating in Europe.

On 20 December 2023, the European Commission designated Pornhub, Xvideos and Stripchat, three widely-used porn sites, as ‘very large online platforms' under the new Digital Services Act.

While considerable work remains on its detail, there is political agreement on the broad shape of the legislation.
