The Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers honored Schnader's Paul H. Titus and Arleigh P. Helfer III, along with attorney Peter Goldberger, with the 2017 Alan Jay Josel Advocacy Award at the organization's annual conference in Harrisburg on April 28. Paul, Arleigh, and Peter were recognized for their work on an amicus brief for PACDL in the case Kuren v. Luzerne County. In Kuren, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania held that claims for anticipated Sixth Amendment ineffective assistance of counsel violations may proceed against counties that underfund public defenders.

A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Paul is a seasoned trial lawyer and appellate advocate. He has represented judicial agencies, various courts, members of the judiciary, local governmental bodies, and elected and appointed officials. He is a former Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society and a founding member of the American Inns of Court Pittsburgh Chapter.

Arleigh is an experienced litigator, whose work ranges from antitrust litigation to consumer financial services and products liability class action defense. He assisted in the defense of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board's Philadelphia casino licensing decisions in proceedings before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and has worked on several appellate matters before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Judicial Circuit.
