New York Partners Eileen Budd and Corey Shulman will present a webinar on defending sexual abuse and assault claims, hosted by the Defense Association of New York (DANY) on July 14 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
In this 90-minute informative session, titled "Defending the Sexual Abuse/Assault Case: An Overview of State and Federal Litigation Under the Child Victims Act and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act," Ms. Budd and Ms. Shulman will provide an overview of statutory interpretation, litigation trends, defense strategies, and recent verdicts involving claims brought under New York's Child Victims Act and the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act. The program will also address responding to allegations, conducting background investigations, utilizing discovery findings, preparing for depositions, and effectively working with expert witnesses. Ms. Budd is vice chair of the firm’s Child Victims Act/Human Trafficking & Assault (CVA/HTA) Practice. Her practice focuses on litigation matters in state and federal courts as well as before state and federal regulatory agencies. She has successfully handled a wide variety matters from inception to verdict.
Mr. Shulman focuses his practice on the defense of home health care agencies, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, businesses, non-profit organizations, and religious institutions in general liability, premises liability, and negligent hiring/supervision matters. Mr. Shulman specializes in the defense of major hotel chains against claims of human sex trafficking under the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 (18 U.S.C. § 1595). He also specializes in the defense of religious and secular institutions against claims of child sexual abuse under New York’s Child Victims Act and Maryland’s Child Victims Act. Mr. Shulman is the Editor of the firm’s Child Victims Act/Human Traffic & Assault practice group.
