We're committed to supporting initiatives that make our communities safer and are proud to share that our Licensing team has officially joined the Ask for Angela scheme as ambassadors.
What is Ask for Angela?
Ask for Angela is a national, not-for-profit initiative designed to help individuals who feel unsafe or vulnerable whilst out in public spaces, particularly in bars, clubs, and other licensed venues. First launched in 2016, the scheme empowers people to discreetly seek help by "asking for Angela" at the bar. Trained staff then step in to provide support, whether that means calling security, offering a safe space, or helping someone leave the venue safely and without drawing attention.
Our role as Ambassadors
Senior Associate Jo Soar, Associate Lesley Harper, and Senior Paralegal Caroline Twist from our Licensing team have taken on the role of ambassadors for the scheme. As part of their commitment, they'll be promoting Ask for Angela in their professional networks, encouraging licensed premises to adopt the initiative, and raising awareness of how it can help reduce violence against women, girls, and other vulnerable groups.
Lesley said: "As a team, we are honoured to be ambassadors for the Ask for Angela initiative. This scheme aligns with our commitment to advise and support the hospitality trade to create safer spaces for everyone."
Why it matters
A recent YouGov survey revealed that 49% of people and 63% of women would be more likely to visit a venue that has visible safety measures in place. By supporting this scheme, we're not only helping to protect individuals but also contributing to a safer, more welcoming night-time economy.
We encourage everyone, especially those working in or with licensed venues, to learn more about the scheme and consider how they can support it.
