The Government has recently issued a Legal Notice which brings into force, retrospectively, amendments to the Highly Qualified Persons Rules. Such amendments have come into force on the 1 January 2012.

The Rules provide for a beneficial tax rate of 15% applicable to individuals holding a senior position with companies licensed or recognized by the Malta Financial Services Authority or the Lotteries and Gaming Authority or companies which hold an Air Operators' Certificate.

The amendments have added certain positions with respect to employment within the Aviation Industry. The positions of Aviation Continuing Airworthiness Inspector and Aviation Flight Operations have been substituted with Aviation Continuing Airworthiness Manager and Aviation Flight Operations Manager. Aviation Ground Operations Manager has been included within the list of 'Eligible Office'.
