Appleby Bermuda is pleased to be sponsoring and speaking at Bermuda Tech Week, taking place 14 to 18 October 2019. Bermuda Tech Week is a five-day programme of events that will bring together local and international experts to discuss emerging trends including Bermuda's role as a home for technology start-ups. Appleby will have speakers at the following events: Liquidity Summit, Bermuda Tech Summit and Tech Beach Retreat. All held at the Hamilton Princess hotel.

Liquidity Summit, presented by Hub Culture, is taking place 15 October. The summit will focus on leading and emerging trends across the world of finance. This one day conference consists of events and workshops devoted to the emerging people, trends and companies in this rapidly evolving space.

Partner Matthew Ebbs-Brewer will be participating in the panel entitled 'Exotics and their Legal Framework'. This panel will explore Blockchain, digital asset and decentralised technologies opening up new legal paradigms for how we organise and distribute value, ownership and trust.

Matthew Ebbs-Brewer is a partner in the Corporate department of Appleby's Bermuda office and leads the funds and investment services team in Bermuda. He is also a member of Appleby's global Technology & Innovation group, providing comprehensive advice in connection with all aspects of initial coin offerings and the carrying on of digital asset business. Matthew has advised corporations, funds and high-net-worth individuals on a range of both contentious and non-contentious matters with notable experience in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, as well as the establishment and development of multinational group structures, joint ventures and both standalone and master/feeder fund structures (including those investing in insurance-linked securities).

Bermuda Tech Summit is presented by Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) & FinTech Bermuda. Appleby is a sponsor of the one day summit, taking place 16 October. The summit will focus on how Bermuda is making pioneering strides to diversify its economy by embracing innovation and emerging technologies which will shape the future of international commerce.

Partner Steven Rees Davies will be participating in the panel entitled 'Advancing Bermuda's Infrastructure'. This panel will discuss how Bermuda is driving plans to develop a subsea telecommunications corridor to support industry best practices and advance its own infrastructure.

Tech Beach Retreat is taking place 17 and 18 October. Appleby is a sponsor of the two day conference. Tech Beach offers a unique catalyst for innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise. Hosted in a relaxed and stimulating environment designed to foster deep connections with a focus on positive outcomes.

Steven Rees Davies will be participating in the panel entitled 'Securities Regulation – Weaving a web of Compliant Digital Security Offerings'. This panel will review the complexities from an issuance and trading perspective, what are best practices to navigate this minefield and discuss some examples of issuance and trading that solve for these requirements.

Steven Rees Davies is a partner within the Corporate department and Joint Global Head of Technology & Innovation, specializing in Fintech and the Digital Asset Business Sector. He practises in the areas of corporate finance, capital markets, regulation and intellectual property, and has represented clients in a wide variety of cross jurisdictional corporate transactions and restructurings as well as private and public offerings, placements and introductions to the Bermuda, London and New York stock exchanges. He is also frequently involved in multinational joint ventures and private equity projects. His regulatory experience covers telecommunications, technology, pharmaceutical, energy, inter-governmental and software industry sectors as well as corporate governance and constitutional advisory work.
