The Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) was introduced in 2022 to assist Ukrainians and some of their family members. New updates to this program were announced last week which categorize applicants as follows:

Applicants who arrived in Canada under the CUAET provisions before March 31, 2024

  • These individuals have been given an extension and can continue to apply for a new work or study permit or extend their work permit or study permit. The new deadline is March 31, 2026.

Applicants who arrived in Canada under the CUAET provisions after March 31, 2024

  • These individuals may not apply for a new work permit or study permit or extend their work permit or study permit under the CUAET measures. These individuals will need to qualify under another work permit category and the usual study permit process.

Measures for individuals who are not in Canada under the CUAET

  • No new measures have been announced for these individuals.
