The Health and Safety Executive has produced ‘Best Practice’ guidance on Health and Safety for the Waste Industry in consultation with the Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum (WISH). To view the ‘Best Practice’ guidance on Health and Safety, please click here.
The ‘Best Practice’ guidance itself is not legally enforceable. However, it may serve to evidence compliance, to an appropriate level with health and safety obligations.
The ‘Best Practice’ guidance sets out basic health and safety requirements and the main hazard areas for the waste industry. These include transport, falls from heights, slips and trips, manual handling, good skip/container practice, machinery guarding and finally staff issues (including PPE, welfare, hygiene, stress and violence).
