As the basis for protection of creativity and human invention, the need for Industrial Property to protect patents, trade marks, industrial designs & models and integrated circuits was sought to ensure an appropriate environment for investments in industries and other commercial activities. This is why the Industrial Property Protection Directorate takes on the supervisory role of all matters related to the registration of trade marks, patents, industrial designs and models and integrated circuits as well as indexing them in an effort to provide the adequate protection in accordance with the current laws. The Directorate also handles all cooperation efforts with international organizations dealing with Intellectual Property.
Filing Requirements
- Power of attorney legalised by the Jordanian Consulate.
- Certified copy of the priority document if claimed.
Notes
- Late filing of documents: allowed within 3 months from filing date without penalty.
- Extension of time for late filing of documents: can be applied for an additional period of 3 months with penalty.
Registration with Customs Duty
- The registration is made according to Customs and Copyright Laws.

Registration of trademark in the Customs Duty Department was available since 1999, and must be made at the head office which is located in Amman, the said registration covers all entries to Jordan by airport and other borders including Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZA).

Jordanian Customs act on their own to search for counterfeits of well-know marks, and "need prior information to act" position if otherwise.
Yearly renewal every is not required, the registration will remain valid as long as the applicant did not apply for its cancellation.
