On 14 March 2017 the Ukrainian Parliament passed two laws for ratification of two important international treaties:

  • The Convention between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg On Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Income and Capital Tax Evasion and the Protocol to it (jointly – "Convention"); and
  • The Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Zone Agreement (the "Agreement").

For more information about the Convention and the Agreement, please refer to our alert.

The laws above are yet to be signed by the President of Ukraine and officially published in order to finish the Convention's and the Agreement's ratification procedure by Ukraine.

Ukraine and Luxembourg have to notify each other by diplomatic channels about the conclusion of the Convention's ratification procedure. The Convention will come into force upon the last of such notification.

The Agreement will come into force on the first day of the second month following the receipt of a notification on the conclusion of the necessary procedures by the last party to the Agreement.
