This past weekend saw a wave of activity in communities across the City of London, the province, and the world in celebration of Earth Day 2018 on April 22, 2018. As individuals and families set out to enjoy and preserve the natural environment, Urban Roots London held a community volunteer Earth Day Spring Prep Celebration with endless coffee from Fireroasted Coffee Company and seemingly unlimited fresh baked cookies from La Noisette Bakery, Urban Roots' Board of Directors and dozens of volunteers were fueled for a full day of labour in the beautiful spring sunshine.

With exclusively volunteer support, Urban Roots was able to till its entire growing space, prepare dozens of planting beds, clear rocks and debris from the fields, outfit its hoop house with rust preventative wrappings, and work to recap an onsite well for watering. All in a day's work. What a day - what an Earth Day!

Urban Roots looks forward to continuing its work to revitalize underused land within the City of London for agriculture, by producing high quality, organic vegetables and herbs for local distribution and donation. Urban Roots thanks all of its many volunteers and supporters, including the City of London's Active & Green Communities program as well as its Season Sponsor, Lerners LLP, for their generous and ongoing support of this event and others!

Urban Roots invites its neighbours and all Londoners to join it at a free volunteer appreciation and community engagement barbecue hosted at the farm at 21 Norlan Avenue, London, Ontario, in partnership with Growing Chefs! Ontario on May 12, 2018. Stay tuned at urbanrootslondon.ca or on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for more details.
