Gowling WLG is pleased to welcome Philip Milley to its Tax Practice Group as partner. Based in Toronto, Philip is a strategic legal advisor with a global perspective and a strong track record of helping charities and other tax-exempt organizations manage tax and regulatory risk, navigate cross-border complexity, and advance their missions with confidence and clarity.
Known for his values-based, collaborative approach, Philip most recently served as Global Director, Legal Enterprise Matters, at the Mastercard Foundation, one of the world's largest philanthropic organizations, where he led diverse legal teams in Canada and across Africa. He previously worked in private practice and at the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities, where he advised several of Canada's largest charitable organizations and appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on charity matters.
"Charities and tax-exempt organizations are facing heightened regulatory scrutiny, increasing cross-border complexity, and growing expectations around governance and accountability," said Pam Vermeersch, chair of Gowling WLG's Corporate Department. "Philip's deep understanding of the sector, combined with his global in-house leadership experience, uniquely positions him to help clients manage risk, remain compliant, and structure their operations in ways that support long-term impact."
