On 21 January, the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer London office hosted a seminar on "Sustainable Infrastructure in Central Asia: ESG, Investment and Emerging Dispute Risks". The discussion focused on key ESG trends, investor expectations, and dispute related risks relevant to hashtag#infrastructure projects across the region.
The discussion also covered a large-scale major project Mirny with 1 GW offshore wind capacity and 600 MWh battery storage, where Unicase is supporting the project as a local counsel. The project is now moving into the financing stage supported by an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA). Kazakhstan's national targets include generating 15% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and increasing the share of renewables and other lowcarbon sources to 50% by 2050. Projects of this scale make a meaningful contribution to these objectives, supporting decarbonisation efforts and the broader climate agenda in Kazakhstan.
We are glad to meet and greet colleagues Alexander Gridasov, MCIArb Paul McKeating Patricia Nacimiento, Ekaterina Miroshnik highlighting the bankability issues, Louise Barber, and Roman Churakov.
