Ward and Smith attorneys Bill Durr and Erica Rogers will be featured speakers at the second session of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Family Law Intensive Program, Human Intelligence: The Algorithm and Beyond – Human Advocacy in a Digital Era.

Following a strong response to the initial offering, this second session has also proven highly popular and is now sold out.

The two-day CLE will take place January 29–30, 2026, in Wrightsville Beach and brings together experienced family law practitioners from across the state for an in-depth, hands-on learning experience. Designed for advanced attorneys, the program focuses on practical advocacy in a profession increasingly shaped by technology, social media, and evolving ethical standards.

Bill and Erica will join a panel discussion titled “The Value of a Brand: NIL—Name, Image, Likeness and Social Media Influencers.” They join experienced attorney and former SIAC Commissioner Gregory Moore of The Moore Law Group, Atlanta, Georgia, with Moderator Shelby Benton of Benton Family Law, Goldsboro, North Carolina. Shelby is credited with planning this dynamic session, which explores how branding, social media, and artificial intelligence are reshaping family law. The conversation will begin with an overview of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights, including recent developments in high school and collegiate rules, and then move into how these new forms of income and exposure are affecting custody, child support, and equitable distribution.

Panelists will also examine the players involved in NIL matters—from families and agents to schools, boosters, and brands—and how Family and Intellectual Property lawyers can help clients navigate these evolving dynamics.

Attendance for the CLE is limited to 75 participants per location and is restricted to experienced family law practitioners. If you would like to join the waiting list, contact the CLE Department at askcle@ncbar.org or 919.677.0561.
