Speaking recently with BNN Bloomberg, Naïm Antaki, co-leader of Gowling WLG's Artificial Intelligence Group, shared his perspective on Canada's renewed focus on building national AI and quantum computing infrastructure as part of the federal government's 2025 budget.

In the interview, Naïm noted that while AI has often been seen as a stand-alone solution, its success depends on the underlying infrastructure and access to computing power — both for innovation and commercialization.

"Now is definitely the right time to think about the question of AI infrastructure. A lot of the times, people were thinking about AI as just a solution, but you actually need to have the access to compute. That's key for global companies, and we need to build something that will help in Canada—not only for research and development, but also for commercialization."
