Hannah R. Brefeld
Hannah R. Brefeld joins RPJ as our latest Litigation Associate, with a strong background in employment law, dispute resolution, and general commercial litigation. Her practice encompasses litigation strategy, employment and commercial contract claims, internal investigations, compliance and workplace training, agency actions and dispute resolution. Ms. Brefeld has litigated cases in both state and federal court involving employment disputes, civil rights violations, employment discrimination, general negligence, wrongful death actions, products liability, and assault and battery allegations. Ms. Brefeld has managed complex discovery and trials concerning an array of legal claims, including breach of contract, wrongful discharge, hostile work environment and discrimination in the workplace. Ms. Brefeld is licensed to practice in Michigan and New York.

Tyla A. Swinton
Tyla A. Swinton joins RPJ’s strong employment law and litigation practice as an Associate, bringing with her a deep expertise in workplace investigations, litigation defense strategy, and employment compliance counseling. Ms. Swinton advises clients on a wide range of issues including personnel management, affirmative action planning, and federal contractor compliance, and regularly conducts internal investigations and customized workplace trainings programs. Ms. Swinton has represented corporate clients in state and federal matters involving claims of workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, as well as clients in mediation other dispute resolution venues. She has been recognized by The National Black Lawyers “Top 100 Black Lawyers in the Country” and “Top 40 Under 40 Black Lawyers in the State of New York” since 2022.

Kaycee Portillo-Sorto
Kaycee Portillo-Sorto is RPJ’s newest Administrative Assistant providing legal, business operations, and communications support. A graduate of Yale University, she earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Comparative Literature with a concentration in Film. Prior to joining our firm, Kaycee held roles in public interest and publishing, including positions at Yale Law School’s Arthur Liman Center, Yale University Press, The Bronx Defenders, and the office of Senator Mark Warner. Bilingual in Spanish, she brings to RPJ a passion for the law and justice, and strong skills in writing, illustration, coding, and administrative support.
