The Authority for Transport in Malta plans to issue a request for proposals for the development and operation of an all-weather marina with up to 240 berths and shore facilities at Sa Maison in Pietà. Proposals will be received by the Authority until the 23rd of September. Transport Malta said it intended to conclude negotiations with the selected preferred bidder within the shortest possible time

Despite the number of marinas around Malta, there are not enough yacht berths to satisfy the demand. Three yachting projects were announced by the government in 2011. One is the Kalkara yacht marina, the second is temporary pontoons off the Royal Malta Yacht Club at Ta' Xbiex and the third what is known as the S&D berths for yachts around the Ta' Xbiex coastline.

The fourth being the Sa Maison marina, will help alleviate the back log of application for yachting berths and the demand for yachting facilities.

The concession for the marina will be will be for 25 years.
