Pakistan has further reduced the duty on import of goods and materials, equipment and machinery from India. In the federal budget 1999-2000, the rates were reduced by 10 per cent on 325 items. Of these, the import duty has further been slashed on 100 items. The items and the cut in duty are as under:

A reduction of 20 per cent has been allowed on

  • needle looms and their spares;
  • circular knitting machines and spares;
  • doddy jacquard punching machines and spares;
  • rubber and plastic moulding machines with opto-electronic display only;
  • other such machines, including those with automatic winding and electrically
  • operated, and six other items under this head; circular knitting milk
  • powder, granule, solid form with fat content up to 15 per cent, or that milk
  • which does not contain added sweetening matter;
  • potatoes fresh or chilled;
  • other potatoes, onion and shallots.

The duty cut of 10 per cent has been allowed on the following items:

  • Iron ore in fines or lumps;
  • hydrogen fluoride;
  • carbon dioxide;
  • sulphur dioxide;
  • hydroxide and peroxide of magnesium and barium;
  • aluminium oxide;
  • aluminium hydroxide;
  • chromium trioxides;
  • electrolytic manganese dioxide;
  • commercial cobalt oxides;
  • hydrazine, hydroxylene and their inorganic salts;
  • lithium oxide and hydroxide;
  • vanadium oxide;
  • nickel oxide and hydroxides;
  • antimony oxides;
  • fluorides of aluminium;
  • other fluorides;
  • flourozilicates of sodium & potassium;
  • sodium hyxafloural;
  • complex fluorine salts;
  • chlorates of sodium;
  • dithionites
  • and another 25 items of the chemicals range.

Apart from these, imports from India would be enjoying 10 per cent cut in duty on gypsum anhydride; crude mica and mica rifted into sheets or splittings; mica powder and waste, groundnut oil of edible grade; coconut crude oil; other coconut (copra) oil; meal of soyabean solvent extracts; oil cakes and those made of all other oils; shelled nuts; tamarind fresh, dried; un-crushed, un-ground pepper; cumin black; fresh ginger; maize (corn) seed, other such seed and flour, meal, powder of the dried leguminous vegetables; copra, vegetable seeds; medicinal herbs including Cinchona bark; lac; guar meal; and industrial substances numbering 63.
