Consider early renewal of your Canadian trademark registrations now. The current government fee to renew registrations is $350. Registrations, including those that are unclassified, can be renewed now regardless of the renewal date.

After June 17, the government fee to renew a registration will increase to $400 for the first class and an additional fee of $125 will be charged for each class thereafter. At the same time, it will become mandatory for all goods and services listed in a registration be classified according to the Nice International Classification System at the time of renewal.

To benefit from early renewal, contact your Gowling WLG professional well in advance of the Canadian Trademark Office closure on June 13, 2019.

Reminder: We are seeing an increased number of fraudulent renewal notices being issued in Canada. If you receive a renewal notice and are concerned that it may be fraudulent, please contact your Gowling WLG professional.
