Following a period of uncertainty resulting from the recent
change in Government, the Government's Equalities Office has
recently announced that implementation of the Equality Act 2010
will indeed commence on 1 October 2010.
The Act represents the most significant development that this
area of law and practice has witnessed in over 30 years and it will
be implemented in stages.
It is not yet clear, however, whether or not the new coalition
Government will bring into force the requirement that employers are
to publish gender pay gap information. This aspect of the Act was
strongly opposed by the Conservatives.
We will bring you further news on the subject when it becomes
available to us.
The content of this article is intended to provide a general
guide to the subject matter. Specialist advice should be sought
about your specific circumstances.
