Withers is working with pro bono client Center for Reproductive Rights to advocate for the reproductive rights of women in Malawi.

The firm assisted the Center in drafting a letter describing the status of reproductive rights and maternal health in Malawi, which was submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council. The Council evaluates the human rights records of member states every five years and the letter will support other materials under review. The UN will then write a report about where Malawi is meeting its human rights obligations and where it still needs to improve.

Withers is also assisting the Center in drafting a petition to the Malawi Supreme Court, arguing that Malawi’s ban on abortion violates international human rights law.

The firm's New York-based team advising the Center includes associates Lauren Bursey, Jovana Crncevic and Joseph Gallo.
