John M. Majoras, a partner who co-leads Jones Day's Business & Tort Litigation Practice and is based in the Firm's Washington Office, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America.
Mr. Majoras tries commercial disputes in state and federal courts throughout the country. His most recent trials have involved antitrust issues, including government challenges to mergers, class actions, and individual plaintiffs alleging both single firm and horizontal conduct. Mr. Majoras' 30 years of trial work have included product liability; consumer class actions; hostile corporate takeovers; and copyright, tax, contract, energy, and entertainment issues.
He has established himself as the go-to trial counsel for defending mergers from antitrust challenges. He recently tried back-to-back merger cases involving the successful defense of STERIS Corporation's acquisition of Synergy Health Plc against a challenge from the FTC, followed by Electrolux Corporation's defense of the DOJ's challenge to its proposed acquisition of General Electric's appliance business. Previously, Mr. Majoras headed up American Airlines' defense of its merger with US Airways, and he subsequently led the defense of the DOJ's challenge to the merger of Aetna and Humana.
Beyond the merger cases, Mr. Majoras has won multiple jury trials, including a large class action on behalf of Sanofi-Aventis in the Southern District of New York. He is lead trial counsel for a client defending itself in a number of upcoming trials scheduled in the opioid litigation pending in numerous state and federal courts. Clients across a wide range of industries have relied on Mr. Majoras to try their most important cases in courthouses throughout the country.

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only, and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds, who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years' trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship.
