Emily Yiolitis, Managing Partner of Harneys in Cyprus, was elected on 20 June to be the new Chairwoman of the Cyprus branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), taking over the position from Peter Economides who is stepping down after nine years in the role. Peter's contribution to STEP was acknowledged with the honorific "Branch Founder".
Prior to her election as Chairwoman, Emily served as branch Secretary and is also a founding member of STEP in Cyprus. Emily's legal practice focuses on international tax structuring and planning and her clients include professional intermediaries around the globe as well as high net worth individuals. She is also a founding partner of Harneys in Cyprus.
Emily commented: "This is an exciting time for trust practitioners in Cyprus due to the recent amendments to the International Trust Law of 1992 which STEP Cyprus played a key role in developing. I am humbled by the confidence shown in me by my peers and pledge to direct my efforts and those of my board to further strengthening Cyprus as a leading jurisdiction for trusts."
STEP is the leading worldwide professional body for practitioners in the fields of trusts, estates and related issues and counts over 17,000 members worldwide. The STEP Cyprus branch was formed in 2003 and has 166 members to date.
