McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that Brandon Kain, author of Good Faith in Canadian Contract Law, has been awarded first place in the 2025 Walter Owen Book Prize competition (English language) by The Canadian Foundation for Legal Research.

The Walter Owen Book Prize is one of Canada's most respected recognitions for legal scholarship, celebrating outstanding contributions that advance the quality and depth of Canadian legal literature. Established in 1988, the prize is awarded in alternating years to English- and French-language works, and honours books that are, or have the potential to become, invaluable resources for members of the Bar, Bench, and legal academy. Previous English-language recipients in private law include Gerald H.L. Fridman, John D. McCamus, Hon. Robert J. Sharpe, Angela Swan and Stephen M. Waddams.

This year's winner was selected by a six-person jury of judges, law professors and practitioners. We are especially proud that the jury's decision to award the prize to Brandon was unanimous — a testament not only to the calibre of his scholarship, but also to the impact his work will have on the broader legal community.

Brandon's achievement reflects the excellence and thought leadership we are known for at McCarthy Tétrault, and the meaningful contributions our people make to the profession.

We are proud to congratulate Brandon on this remarkable accomplishment.
