Groom has welcomed its 2026 summer associates for a 10-week program. Throughout the summer, the summer associates will gain hands-on exposure to Groom's nationally recognized benefits, health, and retirement practices while working alongside attorneys on substantive client matters. The associates will also benefit from mentorship, professional development opportunities, and exposure to the firm's collaborative culture.
This year's talented group of law students includes:
Kate Killean, a rising 3L at The George Washington University Law School. Kate earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Alabama. At GW Law, she serves as an Online Editor for The George Washington Law Review and as a Dean's Fellow, where she teaches legal research and writing skills to first-year law students. Outside of law school, Kate enjoys visiting the National Mall and museums and pursuing arts and crafts projects.
Matthew "Matt" Drauschak is a rising 3L at The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. Matt earned both a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from The Catholic University of America. He is a competing member of the National Mock Trial Team and the Moot Court Association and will organize CUA's ERISA Moot Court Competition next year. Matt recently completed an externship with the U.S. Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). In his free time, he enjoys running, playing the piano, and cooking.
Matteo Caramazza is a rising 3L at Georgetown University Law Center. Matteo earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Toronto and a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Columbia University. Prior to law school, he worked as a financial counselor at a nonprofit organization in New York. Following his time at Groom, he will intern with the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel. A Washington, D.C., native, Matteo enjoys seeing new movies, trail running throughout the DMV, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.
Groom looks forward to supporting Kate, Matt, and Matteo as they continue their legal education and gain practical experience through the firm's Summer Associate Program.
