A company filed a claim against our client for US$341,446 in alleged accumulated debt arising from an equipment leasing arrangement in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. The claimant went further to add US$34,144 in professional fees, essentially seeking reimbursement for their own legal costs as part of the debt claim itself.
So we are contesting everything.
At OAL, we do not accept commercial claims at face value, especially in high-value disputes where the methodology behind the numbers is as important as the numbers themselves. Every figure in this claim is being interrogated: how it was calculated, what it is based on, whether it is contractually justified, and whether it reflects the actual commercial reality of the arrangement.
The matter is currently being actively defended before the Lagos High Court.
