Such high anxiety may be unexpected, says Rob Hornby, co-CEO of AlixPartners, but it's a natural consequence of the shape-shifting business environment which many leaders feel increasingly underprepared for.

"CEOs are being asked to prioritise and navigate things they do not really understand. If you pick just three things from the last year, there have been complex geopolitical and political issues – with a capital P – for which most CEOs are not well equipped."
