Tara J. Schellhorn, a partner in Riker Danzig's Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring Practice, spoke on "Third Party Releases Post-Purdue: Opt-In vs. Opt-Out" for the King County Bar Association's Bankruptcy Section in Washington state during a virtual CLE presentation on December 9, 2025. Tara, together with Faye C. Rasch of Wenokur Riordan PLLC, took a close look at opt-in and opt-out mechanisms, analyzing how courts are treating these structures and what risks practitioners should consider. Tara and Faye provided attendees with an overview of circuit-by-circuit case law developments, as well as practical takeaways for dealing with third-party releases.
