Our Private Equity team has advised the existing shareholders, including long-standing client Cairngorm Capital Partners LLP, on the sale of EMED Group, the UK's leading specialist healthcare transport provider, to Tiger Infrastructure Partners.
Gowling WLG has partnered with Cairngorm Capital throughout EMED's journey, having acted on the acquisition of E-zec Medical Transport Services in 2021 and its merger with ERS Medical in 2023 to create EMED — now the UK's largest provider of specialist transport services to the NHS and local authorities.
From 11 contracts and 75,000 patient journeys per month in 2021, EMED has grown to operate 87 contracts nationwide, delivering over 176,000 journeys each month. The group's transformation reflects a clear strategy implemented by an ambitious management team, underpinned by operational excellence and targeted investment.
The transaction team was led by Partner Ian Piggin and Associate Emily Chittick (Private Equity), supported by a cross-sector team including Partner Amar Adatia and Solicitor Apprentice Maya Thompson (Corporate), Partner Kate Featherstone and Associate Natalie Poole (Tax), Partner Navin Prabhakar and Associate Nikita Gudgeon (Banking & Finance), Legal Director Hannah Swindall (Employment), Senior Associate Nicola Page (Real Estate), Partner Paul Carberry and Associate James Barnett (Pensions).
Partner Ian Piggin, said: "This transaction marks the successful culmination of a bold investment strategy and a trusted partnership with Cairngorm Capital Partners. EMED's transformation into the UK's leading healthcare transport provider is a clear example of how strategic investment can unlock exceptional value – and we're proud that Gowling WLG's cross-practice expertise helped deliver this landmark outcome for our clients."
