We don't just give great advice, we also give blood! Lawyers Who Give Back:

At O'Brien Criminal & Civil Solicitors, we believe that being great lawyers goes far beyond giving legal advice. It's also about giving back to the communities we serve, whether that's through our pro bono legal assistance, supporting charitable organisations, or simply lending a helping hand where it's needed most.

This week, that commitment took a very personal form when three of our solicitors, Anavi Arya, Brooke Collins, and Megan Kirk, rolled up their sleeves to donate blood with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.

Supporting Lifeblood: Lawyers Who Give Back

Donating blood might seem like a small act, but it has an enormous impact. A single donation can help save up to three lives. These donations are used to help patients undergoing surgery, people with cancer, trauma victims, and countless others. We encourage those able to make a life-saving contribution.

Anavi, Brooke, and Megan's visit to Lifeblood is just one example of how our team strives to support causes that keep our community healthy and thriving. It's not about recognition, it's about making sure we're doing our part as individuals and as a firm. Another example of Megan's admirable civic engagement is her regular participation in protests to help defend and protect our human rights.

A Broader Culture of Giving Back

Our involvement with Lifeblood sits within a broader culture of service and social justice that has been central to O'Brien Criminal & Civil Solicitors since day one.

Last year, we were deeply honoured to be awarded Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year, an acknowledgment of our ongoing commitment to providing legal support where it's needed most, regardless of a person's means or background.

One significant focus of our recent pro bono work has been in Alice Springs in 2024. Here, our criminal lawyers assisted vulnerable individuals and communities facing legal challenges in complex circumstances. The experience has been deeply meaningful for our lawyers, many of whom feel strongly about closing the justice gap in remote and regional areas of Australia.

Why It Matters to Our Clients That We Are Lawyers Who
Give Back

While we're proud of the community work we do, our purpose is never self-congratulation. Instead, we believe our social commitment directly benefits our clients in several important ways:

  • Trust and Empathy: Clients often come to us at the most stressful times of their lives. Knowing their lawyers genuinely care about people and communities helps build trust and confidence.
  • Broader Perspective: Our pro bono work exposes us to a wide range of social and legal issues, deepening our understanding of the real-life context behind every case.
  • Values-Driven Service: Many clients want to work with professionals whose values align with their own. We believe integrity and compassion should underpin everything we do, in the courtroom and beyond.

Staying True to Our Mission Lawyers Who Give Back

At O'Brien Criminal & Civil Solicitors, we are Lawyers Who Give Back. We'll continue looking for ways to serve, both in our legal practice and as active members of the community. Whether it's donating blood, volunteering our time, or representing clients who might otherwise go unheard, we believe true advocacy happens inside and outside the courtroom.

We're grateful to our team members like Anavi, Brooke, and Megan for reminding us that every contribution counts, no matter how big or small.

If you're ever considering joining us in donating blood, supporting a cause, or simply learning more about your rights, we'd love to connect. Together, we can help build a community where justice and compassion go hand in hand.
