Chambers USA has recognized 185 Ballard Spahr attorneys and 76 firm practices in the newly released 2025 edition of its industry guide to leading lawyers and law firms.

Once again, the firm earned a Band 1 national ranking in Public Finance law as well as Band 1 Public Finance rankings in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and—new this year—Arizona.

Ballard Spahr also once again earned a Band 1 national ranking in First Amendment Litigation, and the firm’s Delaware litigators received a new top-tier state ranking in the White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations category.

At the state level, Ballard Spahr is ranked in Band 1 in Pennsylvania in seven areas: Banking and Finance; Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation; Litigation: Securities; Litigation: White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations; Public Finance; Real Estate; and Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use.

The firm also is ranked in Band 1 in state rankings for Real Estate and Public Finance in Maryland and in Media and Entertainment and Public Finance in Washington, D.C.

Ballard Spahr combined with Lane Powell on January 1, 2025, and the firm’s 2025 rankings now include significant recognition in the Pacific Northwest. Nineteen of the firm’s practice areas across Alaska, Oregon, and Washington State received rankings for 2025. These include Band 1 rankings for Banking and Finance; Construction; and Health Care in Washington State, as well as Bankruptcy/Restructuring in Oregon. Fifty-one attorneys in the Pacific Northwest were ranked.

Twenty-two Ballard Spahr lawyers increased in their individual band rankings and 24 others were ranked for the first time.

The Chambers USA methodology involves client interviews, peer reviews, and independent research. The rankings reflect the criteria considered most valued by clients—legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness, diligence, and value.
