Lily Wound—a corporate lawyer with extensive experience in licensing and other intellectual property transactions who focuses on the life sciences and climate change sectors—has joined Ballard Spahr's Business and Transactions Department, Corporate Group, and Life Sciences Industry Teamas partner, firm Chair Peter Michaud announced today. Lily is resident in the firm's New York office.

"An attorney with Lily's experience and range of abilities would be an asset to any firm. That she has chosen Ballard Spahr is reason to celebrate," Business and Transactions Department Chair Nathan E. Seiler said. "Our Life Sciences and licensing attorneys are thrilled that she has joined us, and our clients are sure to welcome news of her arrival."

Lily advises companies in a wide range of complex commercial, licensing, and other intellectual property-related transactions. Her work touches every segment of the lifecycle of a life sciences product, from early-stage development to commercialization in an array of transactions. She has extensive experience advising companies on the frontier of science, including in fields such as artificial intelligence, gene therapy, gene editing, and engineered cell therapies. Lily also counsels early-stage companies on commercial, contractual, and transactional matters. As an alumna of Harvard University, she has significant access to Boston's thriving life sciences and startup sectors.

Ballard Spahr is a destination firm for life sciences businesses, serving them from innovation to commercialization. The firm's life sciences lawyers—many of whom hold advanced degrees in the sciences—understand the complex, industry-specific issues at play. Our dedicated team includes lawyers focused on corporate, intellectual property, litigation, and real estate matters specific to the life sciences industry. Several of the firm's life sciences attorneys are routinely recognized in LMG Life Sciences' annual directory.

Lily is the third female partner to join Ballard Spahr in three months, following Atlanta white collar litigator Jill Steinberg, who joined the firm in March, and zoning and land use partner Jill S. Parks, who joined the firm's Washington, D.C., office in April. Lily joined the firm from DLA Piper, where she had been a partner.

"With its strong Corporate, Life Sciences, and Emerging Growth and Venture Capital teams, Ballard Spahr couldn't be a better fit for my practice," Lily said. "I share the firm's values of excellent legal product and incomparable client service, and I am pleased to join the firm's outstanding team."

On January 1, 2025, Ballard Spahr combined with Lane Powell, adding more than 150 new attorneys to the firm, as well as offices in Anchorage, Portland, and Seattle.
