Matthew J. Littlefield—a patent attorney with a focus on software—has been elevated to Counsel, firm Chair Peter Michaud announced today.

Matthew is a member of Ballard Spahr’s Patents Group and Electrical and Software team. He advises clients on all aspects of patent prosecution—drafting applications, preparing responses to office actions, and overseeing foreign filings. He has been named a One to Watch by The Best Lawyers in America in Intellectual Property Law (Atlanta) and Patent Law (Atlanta) every year since 2022.
Before becoming an attorney, Matthew was Ballard Spahr’s IP Patent Process Manager. In that role, he directed staff in optimizing and maintaining the docket database to ensure data integrity and seamless integration with firm-wide systems.
