PITTSBURGH (May 2025) – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney has enhanced its administrative leadership team to reflect the firm’s long-term strategic plan. Rick Steiner has joined the firm as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Additionally, the firm has promoted Maria Mager to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Lloyd Freeman to Chief Experience Officer (CXO).

“The updates to our administrative leadership align with our strategic plan,“ said Jim Newell, the firm’s Chairman and CEO. “We have an ambitious strategic plan that outlines how we’ll continue to grow in the next several years. This updated team is acutely focused on building on our reputation for client service, value and workplace culture to exceed expectations as we move the firm forward.”

Steiner will lead the firm’s business development and marketing team in developing strategic initiatives to drive growth, with a focus on practice development, client engagement and brand strategies. Throughout his career, he has led high-performing teams that were tasked with building integrated marketing strategies that drive revenue and growth across diverse client segments. He has experience leveraging innovation, data and insights to inform marketing strategies. He previously served as CMO at FNB Corporation, a financial institution headquartered in Pittsburgh.

“Buchanan has a stellar administrative team with leading professionals in their respective areas of expertise, and I’m proud to be the newest addition to it,” said Steiner about his new role. “I look forward to advancing Buchanan’s long-term growth strategy and enhancing client value with my colleagues.”

As CFO, Mager is responsible for overall financial management of the firm. She oversees financial operations, including financial reporting and analytics, cash management, budgeting, negotiating and maintaining credit facilities, billing and collections, internal controls, audits and tax compliance. She previously served as the firm’s Director of Financial Analysis and Reporting.

Freeman, who has directed the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives since 2020, will continue that work as CXO. The CXO role will join the client experience and employee experience together to create an even stronger competitive advantage for the firm. In addition to helping to shape the firm’s culture, Freeman will work closely with the attorney recruiting team to increase lateral recruitment and enhance the lateral attorney experience at Buchanan. As CXO, he will focus on expanding the firm’s relationships across the legal industry and continue to foster a culture of cross-collaboration among practices and offices to offer clients even more value. Building upon the exceptional client service Buchanan is known for, Freeman will lead efforts to further enhance the client experience, continuing to exceed expectations and strengthen client relationships.
