Butler Snow LLP is pleased to announce attorney Melody McAnally is serving as Chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) for 2024-2025. McAnally, who previously served as Chair-Elect and Vice Chair, will lead the 200+ member committee focusing on cybersecurity, data privacy and AI issues, with a focus on cyber insurance.
The principal mission of the Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Committee is to communicate information to the ABA TIPS members to facilitate education and increase awareness of cybersecurity, data privacy and AI-related issues that clients may encounter.
At Butler Snow, McAnally serves as a Team Leader of the Data Security and Privacy Team, focusing on a range of privacy and data security matters and commercial litigation. She has extensive experience advising clients on data security and privacy issues, including data breach investigation and notification, data breach litigation, privacy compliance programs, privacy litigation, and cyber insurance policies and coverage issues.
McAnally is AV®-Preeminent" Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and was recently recognized by Best Lawyers in America® in Commercial Litigation for the 5th consecutive year (2020-2025). She has previously been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers® in Business Litigation and named a Top-Rated Commercial Litigation Lawyer by The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel. The Mississippi Bar Association has also recognized McAnally as a recipient of the Curtis E. Coker Access to Justice Award and the Jackson Young Lawyers' Pro Bono Award.
She has been involved in various professional associations throughout her career, including serving as a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation International, Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation and Fellow of the Memphis Bar Foundation. She is also a member of the ABA Privacy and Security Committee and ABA Science Technology Law Committee. Additionally, she is a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association's Construction Law Section Executive Council, the Memphis Bar Association, the Association of Women Attorneys and the Mississippi Bar Association, amongst others.
McAnally earned her bachelor's degree (English) from the University of Mississippi. She obtained her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Mississippi College, where she was Editor-in-Chief of Law Review and served on the Moot Court Board.
