Instrumentarium, a listed Finnish company in the field of healthcare and medical technologies, acquired Ohmeda's Medical Systems Division from the BOC group for approximately 494 million US$. Ohmeda is the leading supplier of anesthesia machines in the US market.

The acquisition will substantially strengthen Instrumentarium's position in the worldwide medical equipment markets and especially in the USA. With the acquisition Instrumentarium also gains the exclusive right to the Ohmeda name which is considered to be of great value due to Ohmeda's excellent reputation. After the acquisition, Instrumentarium will have annualised pro forma net sales of approximately 867 US$, a balance sheet total of 830 US$ and an equity/total assets ratio of over 40 %.
