February 13 2018 - Earlier this month, the government of Argentina dissolved the National Lottery, which had required advertisers to register sweepstakes and contests that are conducted in Argentina. As a result, at least for now, Argentina no longer requires sweepstakes and contests to be registered.

"This is a great opportunity for local and foreign companies interested in launching contests and promotions in Argentina," said Paula Pfizenmaier, Partner of Randle Legal in Buenos Aires, Argentina. "We have to wait and see whether a new registration requirement will be instituted."

Previously, only local companies or foreign companies with a local branch properly registered in the country were able to request the registration of a sweepstakes or contest. As a result, it prevented many foreign companies from including Argentina in their promotional activities.

"This is great news for marketers planning global promotions," said GALA Chairman Jeffrey A. Greenbaum, who is Managing Partner of Frankfurt Kurnit in New York City. "At least for the time being, this move should allow more companies to include Argentina in their promotion plans."
